I have known Carolyn for over seven years and for about the last two years she reported directly to me in my capacity as Director of Digital Content Development. During this time, Carolyn developed, improved, and managed the content and data needed for the adaptive learning engine that powered higher education science courseware. Carolyn has been instrumental in helping to manage the maturation of the adaptive engine, from initially working on a team to figure out how it would all come together, to assisting in the continual improvement and next generation model. She worked effectively with a host of teams such as technical engineering, subject matter expertise (SMEs), UX, media production, and content development to ensure product efficacy. Carolyn worked independently to train and manage SMEs and vendors to scale the adaptive model for production. Her dedication, willingness to learn and attention to detail gave me great confidence in her ability to deliver on the projects she managed. The addition of Carolyn to any team will enhance the team culture. Her empathy, honesty, and character were appreciated by me and all around her. I really enjoyed working with Carolyn and do not hesitate in recommending her.

I am pleased to write this recommendation for Carolyn Brownsberger. I have known Carolyn since September 2012 when she applied for a position on my Content Development team at Pearson Education. The position I had posted was a newly created role for a product called Adaptive Follow Up Assignments (AFUs) in the Mastering platform for university and college science and engineering students. The development process had not yet been defined. In the initial interview, I was impressed with her passion for education and her willingness to take on a role that was so nebulous. She asked procedural questions, many of which I could not answer at the time, and she became resigned to, and even excited about, figuring it all out. I knew then that she was the candidate that I would ultimately hire! In her role as Senior Content Developer for Adaptive Follow Up Assignments in Mastering (Science), Carolyn was responsible for defining, and redefining, the development process, for hiring, training, and managing the subject-matter expert contributors (SMEs) across all the scientific disciplines, and for communicating details and product updates with her internal colleagues in Editorial and Marketing. She also developed strong collaborative relationships with her colleagues on the AI/machine learning team, the UX team, and the content development & production teams. She also contracted and managed 3rd party vendors to compile the appropriate content in the defined format. She worked with all involved parties to ensure product efficacy and customer satisfaction. In the 5 years during which she reported directly to me, Carolyn was an independent, self-driven employee. She had a keen sense on when to rely on her own judgement and when to ask for advice or assistance. She was always interested in how her work and the AFU product intersected with the other components of the higher education business. She is a detail oriented problem solver and a reliable, organized, knowledgeable, thorough, and dedicated team player.
