Carolyn and I worked together for five years from 2011 to 2016, during which time she took the RACV brand from strength to strength. She is one of the best strategic thinkers I have ever worked with and has a fantastic ability to develop and implement credible evidence-based strategies to improve brand strength and longevity. She is a visionary - as an example she identified the need for RACV to establish a marketing data analytics function, long before "big data" became a buzzword. She built the function from a standing start, identifying the required people and systems and won agreement to allocate significant funding for implementation. RACV's success in using predictive models to build a best practice direct marketing program is testament to her tenacity and commitment. Carolyn has always been an impressive leader with the ability to build a strong team motivated to deliver results. She would be an asset to any business and I would employ her again in a heartbeat.

Carolyn is a truly passionate and committed leader. This commitment is evident in the care and consideration Carolyn affords her team members and her commitment to producing outputs of a very high quality. Carolyn is a strategic thinker and has a naturally collaborative style. A true 'people person', Carolyn is both humble and non-hierarchical. She is able to operate effectively and build relationships at any level of an organisation, whether in the board room or with the cleaning staff. Carolyn has exceptional communication skills and is able to take vast amounts of information, synthesise it and present it in a manner that is tailored to the audience. She is able to challenge the brightest minds, because of her own natural intelligence.

RACV provides its 2.1 million members with a diverse range of products and services including insurance, roadside assistance, motoring products, mobility products, resorts, a club, emergency home assist, home security and finance. Leading a team of up to 30 marketing professionals, I was responsible for optimising returns on the marketing budget and increasing the value of the RACV brand. Key achievements include successfully defending RACV’s leadership position in the roadside assistance and insurance markets, thereby protecting two key revenue streams; supporting the diversification of the business by rapidly growing utilisation of RACV’s hospitality and home products; repositioning RACV from an auto club that provides insurance to a mutual/membership organisation committed to consistently doing right by its members; implementing a new visual identity to further increase brand relevance and appeal; establishing a data analytics function and gaining organisational buy-in to making a significant investment in this capability; launching a number of new products and services and building a high performing team. Salmat is an ASX listed company which provides multichannel marketing services for companies such as Woolworths Limited, Target Australia, Telstra and the Government of Australia. I was responsible for evolving the company’s own marketing team from a reactive service provider to a more strategic, commercial, value-adding function. Achievements include developing a corporate brand strategy and producing customer segmentation models to support relationship management and business development across the Mailbox, Direct Marketing, Contact Centres and Database business divisions. DBC Services Ltd is a privately owned, New Zealand based company that specialises in marketing automation. Having been a client while at Telecom New Zealand, I was asked to set up and run an Australian subsidiary. The role involved business management, business development and account management, including writing business requirements and overseeing the customisation of campaign management solutions. In the first two years of operation we over-achieved revenue targets and significantly enhanced the product, increasing the relevance and marketability of the application. Show less

Known as Telecom New Zealand when I worked there, Spark New Zealand is a telecommunications company offering fixed line telephone services, a mobile network and an internet service provider. It is one of the largest companies by value on the New Zealand Stock Exchange. Reporting to the GM Marketing, Telecom Business and managing a team of seven, I was responsible for building the brand and driving maximum return from one of the largest advertising budgets in the country. I led the delivery of a marketing program that significantly contributed to a 15% increase in revenue at a time when revenue and market share were declining in the consumer and corporate divisions of the business. Other achievements include delivering a complex small business package in 13 weeks, compared with a standard life-to-market time frame of 12 months and leveraging a sponsorship portfolio valued at $4 million to return approximately $11 million of incremental business. NAB owned, BNZ (Bank of New Zealand) is one of New Zealand's largest banks.I was responsible for leading the implementation of the marketing programs for all divisions and products at this NAB-owned bank and for ensuring that all activities built the brand, campaigns were coordinated enterprise-wide to achieve optimum cut-through and access to shared resources was assigned to deliver maximum return. I left to have my first child in May 1997 and was asked to return from maternity leave prematurely to write the business case for relocating Bank of New Zealand’s head office from Wellington to Auckland and project manage the implementation. • 1995 - 1996

I developed and implemented marketing plans for the international banking division; enhanced and relaunched foreign currency accounts and the TravelPack suite of products; and increased foreign exchange revenues by around 23% by expanding the bureaux de change network and more effectively leveraging the bank’s presence at international airports.
