As the Director of the Rice Office of STEM Engagement (R-STEM), I lead a team of 12 Rice staff members to improve STEM education in the greater Houston area and support the broader impacts efforts of Rice University researchers through programs including intensive professional development for teachers and innovative enrichment for K-12 students. R-STEM programs reach hundreds of elementary and secondary STEM teachers and thousands of students across Texas annually and have been shown to increase teachers’ content and pedagogy knowledge and students attitudes towards science and mathematics. I manage an annual budget of $3,000,000 and form partnerships between Rice University and K-12 institutions, foundations, corporations,and nonprofit organizations. Show less
