Joint collaboration between the University of Padova and several U.S. veterinary schools that taught large animal welfare, food safety and public health at an international scale. The iMOVES project consisted of classroom learning, laboratory exercises, and trips to various locations such as meat processing facilities, a poultry farm, and a zoo and conservation center. I networked with professors from various countries, and veterinary students from Italy and several schools throughout the United States. Show less

Provided medical care for domesticated animals in low-resourced townships. This included administering preventatives for ectoparasites, treating wounds and educating the animal owners about proper animal care. We educated the public on how animal health and welfare directly affects their own health and well-being. This included discussing ectoparasite control, zoonotic diseases, food-borne pathogens, and economic profits regarding livestock. I gained appreciation for hands-on work with the community members while adapting to a different culture and resource situation to solve problems. I also got hands on experience working with large game species under anesthesia including wildebeest, a variety of antelope, and zebra. We performed injections, and ear tagging on anesthetized animals. Show less
