Caroline is a Markets and Events Manager and has worked at the Natural Resources Institute (NRI) of the University of Greenwich in the UK for her entire career far nearly 30 years. She has several responsibilities; organising meetings and conferences; regularly making travel arrangements for about 150 staff and students for all over the world; marketing of our BSc and MSc courses for the prospective students in the UK and abroad, promoting the work of NRI and the university through several social media platforms on a daily basis, and anything else that requires organising people and events at the workplace. She has been doing all these tasks extremely well for several years. She is not afraid of taking on responsibilities and rather good at multitasking, carrying out vastly varied types of work. I have known Caroline for over 20 years, ever since I joined NRI in the late 1990s and don’t think I have known a more professional and helpful colleague than her in my entire career, be it in the administrative or scientific roles. This says much about Caroline’s work ethic and the lengths she goes to help her colleagues, like me, to do my work to my full potential. She is a true professional to the core, very caring and considerate, goes out of her way to help people often working during odd hours and weekends, and genuinely wishes to help everyone in any situation. Whether organising project meetings of 10 to 100 people or an international conference of over 200 people, Caroline can do it with much ease. She is the ultimate professional and plans much about the safety and wellbeing of her colleagues during meetings and overseas trips by considering all the eventualities that we never worry about the logistics. This has allowed us to focus exclusively on the scientific content of the meetings and do the best we can do as researchers. Many of my overseas trips required last minute changes due to changing plans on the ground or cancelled flights, and before I even know it, Caroline will have put in place an alternative plan for me to return back home. Knowing that this kind of support exist is very important, especially when working in remote places in African countries for example, because it has helped me focus on the work at hand rather than worrying if I can get back home safely at the end. As indicated above, Caroline manages NRI’s several social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) and this requires identifying news stories on a daily basis. This in turn requires persuading often reluctant staff to write short stories about their research regularly, and without a doubt in my mind that without Caroline’s enthusiasm and persuasion of staff to share news stories, our social media accounts would have suffered badly due to the lack of stories to share. It's a pleasure and an honour to work with such a committed, enthusiastic and impartial colleague like Caroline that she motivates many staff like to to do more at work. Caroline com
