At Bosch I had a research project in the optimization of electric drives. I derived and solved the nonlinear equations that described the behavior of the electric circuit that made up the control of the electric drive. The drive and equations were solved and simulated using Matlab/Simulink. This project served as one subject for my Master's thesis as well as being useful to the work underway in my department at Bosch. At Georgia Tech, I was a member of the iReal lab under Dr. Jon Rogers. I worked on a project for a helicopter autorotation control that was one subject of my Master's thesis. I created the controller using Matlab/Simulink and performed the tuning by running the controller with a simulation of the helicopter performance. Each spring, the freshmen engineering students write a literature research paper in their chosen field and present their findings in a conference setting. As a co-chair, each year I advised a dozen students in teams of two, editing their papers (using my engineering and writing knowledge), coordinating with an industry mentor, and preparing them to make a professional presentation. Over three four-month rotations, I worked on various projects related to the work of the full time engineers. This included creating drawings and calculation spreadsheets, proposing design updates, and occasionally working with another engineer on their project. In my final rotation, I had a self-directed project where I designed experiments to evaluate the current performance and possibility of improvements of the company produced temperature chamber. My experiments involved investigating the feedback of the controller for the chamber as well as the physical performance of the dispersion nozzles. Show less
