  The Way Station is Birmingham, Alabama's only emergency, overnight shelter and transitional housing program for young people ages 18 to 24 at risk for or experiencing homelessness. Way Station programs will include: 1) Overnight shelter: 20 beds in temporary housing with crisis intervention services including immediate safety, trauma-informed care counseling, establishment of a care plan, and satisfaction of basic needs, 2) Transitional Housing Program: 20 beds in longer-term housing for up to two years with supportive services including enrollment into Birmingham Schools or GED prep; financial empowerment classes; life, employment, and housing skills classes; vocational/career training; internships; and health care; and 3) Permanent Housing: Placement and assistance with utility and rent deposits through an existing AIDS Alabama Rapid Re-Housing program.
