Principal Investigator at IBIOBA-MPSP-CONICET - Cancer stem cells and Cell plasticity
-
Mar 2012 - Present
We study molecular and cellular mechanisms involved during the dynamic regulation of cell plasticity and how the tumor microenvironment regulates the expression of critical genes in this process. Cell plasticity, drives by stem-like tumors cells, contributes to the heterogeneous cell population observed in tumors, and consequently, their recurrence after treatment and dissemination. These cells express core transcription factors and epigenetic regulators that mediate the acquisition and maintenance of a malignant cell phenotype. Our research includes human tumor samples, mouse xenograft models, and three-dimensional (3D) cultures of cancer cells (enrichment of stem-like tumor cells) that simulate in vitro the conditions of cell plasticity in the tumor. Also, we carried out a multidisciplinary approach and advanced microscopy methods to conceive and understand the organization and dynamic progression of tumor cells in these models.
