My greatest strengths are my ability to communicate and adapt. I am a linguist and work as part of several teams within and outside of the College setting, instilling a culture of engagement. I deal with parents, students and staff on a daily basis, displaying utmost professionalism and confidence in dealing with difficult conversations. My excellent interpersonal skills mean I am able to capture the attention of others to put a new idea forward with a different perspective and bring them along with me on that journey. In my teaching role, I have to deliver engaging, interactive lessons, often having to differentiate to ensure all students are able to access the science and learn constructively. The College consists of a very high percentage of international students from all areas across the world and as I have a tight schedule in which to impart the syllabus, key vocabulary and ideas, I have to plan and cater for all abilities, learning needs, English language levels and cultures. My approach has always been student-centric and I have introduced new visual simulations and practical demonstrations to the department’s teaching. I always reflect upon my delivery of the content to the students and adapt when things do not go according to plan. I thrive working under pressure: expectations are high as student are very able at Cardiff Sixth Form College; always aiming for intellectual stimulation and covered University places. I am a passionate, well-rounded lifelong learner and an ambitious individual who enjoys developing people and inspiring a love of science. Show less

I work closely with the Head of GCSE to ensure that the development of the new two-year intake and delivery of GCSE courses aligns with relevant syllabuses.I am a primary point of contact for staff within the GCSE cluster who may require assistance with their professional development or with student development and behaviour. I am responsible for providing and contributing to oral and written assessments and reports on the development, effort, progress, and attainment of pupils. I liaise directly with parents professionally. In addition to my other responsibilities, I organise weekly assemblies and plan enjoyable and varied induction activities, including scheduling these activities. I also create programmes for half terms for our borders, and I am responsible for their timetabling. I gather and disseminate information from learner focus groups, providing feedback to relevant departments. Finally, I contribute to the development and maintenance of the College's strategic mission, goals, policies, procedures, and values. While teaching in a large boarding school, I had the privilege of being a part of a thriving community. As the Head of Years 9 to 11, I became skilled at motivating and inspiring my students to reach beyond their comfort zones and strive for greatness. Handling pastoral issues calmly and promptly was a natural part of my duties, and my exceptional organisational skills allowed me to seamlessly manage my teaching commitments alongside the unpredictable responsibilities of the Head of Year role. As the Head of Year, I prioritised safeguarding by immediately reporting any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Person and made it a priority to promote and facilitate academic and pastoral progress among my students. It was my responsibility to ensure that procedures, routines, and rules were clearly understood and followed by all students. During my eight years at the school, I honed my teaching skills, constantly pushing boundaries and inspiring young girls to pursue STEM careers. I developed the Physics course by providing a comprehensive scheme of work, resources for teaching staff, and a Google site for students. I adeptly managed my full-time teaching timetable while simultaneously monitoring students' academic progress through grade analysis and tracker spreadsheets. My teaching methods involve a variety of activities including, digital learning, demonstrations, teacher-led, group and pair work, discussions, and hands-on experiments, which expand education beyond the classroom into every facet of students' lives. I strive to help students learn how to learn on their own, empowering them to always have a teacher at their disposal: themselves. As the coordinator of the extra-curricular "Science Matters" society, I organised in-house speakers and an annual Science Dinner, collaborated with professional institutions, and managed a budget. This experience taught me how to network and push boundaries to enrich students' scientific knowledge outside of the classroom. Show less
