In 2013, after a long period of deliberation Ms. Carol Cooper decided to put something back into the sport of Showing. Having been on various judging panels, and having the experience of helping to organise entertainment events at PUK, to which her late mother was the patron for many years she decided to organise a show. Before Ms. Carol Cooper came up with the idea for Showcase of Champions, there was no special event to mark the showing season where competitors from grass-roots to professionals could come together without having to qualify for the chance to win large prizes. At the onset, the plan was to stage a small show, and incorporate the fun, glamour, the spirit of friendship and the essence of competing in shows. The show was purely focused on showing Miniature Horses and Shetlands for the first year in 2014. The first show had amazing support from the Cooper family, friends, sponsors, and volunteers in particularly the show’s main sponsor MISSINA HORSEBOXES. It was a tremendous success, with record entries for miniature horses and Shetlands. Every show needs a good show venue to make it a success. The Showcase of Champions committee selected the Sovereign Quarter Horses as the venue for the first show in 2014. The venue is managed by the Deptford family, and their connection to the Cooper family goes back to David’s grandfather, the late Albert Deptford, who bred one of the legendary show ponies for the Cooper family “Holly of Spring”. The show moved to The college Equestrian Center in 2016 in order to accommodate the number of competitors attending the show. Show less
