My father lived with me and I was his only caregiver. He had Parkinson's with dementia and was diabetic along with several other medical issues. He passed away on May 30, 2018 from a major stroke at the age of 88. During my last year at KVSC, I had had to take a 2-week family leave to take care of him after a hospitalization. My job search after KVSC was restricted to trying to find a local position in order to still watch over my father. It was difficult with my level of experience in a rural environment. During this time, I did substitute teaching at the local high school and wrote articles for the local newspaper. By January 2017 it became evident that I would not be able to even hold a part-time job since so much of my time was dedicated to him and his health care. I discovered the Structured Family Caregiver program and was officially working as his caregiver as of August 2017. Show less
