Carmen is a hard worker, self motivated with critical thinking and a lot of energy. I met her at Stanford University in her 3 months visit. Luckily we worked at the same building and we shared many science and personal situations.

My research is focus on the study of high-grade metamorphic rocks related to the European Variscides and Central Asian Orogenic Belt. The research involves petrological and geochronological studies together with thermodynamic modelling. The main aim of the research was to investigate the extension of the Paleoproterozoic thermal overprint in the Archean – Paleoproterozoic basement of the Southern part of São Francisco Craton and its margin through the geochronological study in accessory such as titanite and monazite. “High temperature metamorphism and relations with calc-alkaline magmatism in the Variscan orogenic belt. Case study of the Roc de Frausa Massif, Eastern Pyrenees” The geological regions which expose continuously from low to high-grade metamorphic rocks offer the possibility to compare the thermal evolution of different levels of the crust in the same orogenic event. The existence of contemporaneous granitoids intruded at different crustal levels allow linking the metamorphism with the generation of magmas and the differentiation of the Earth's crust. Show less

The aim was to correlate the structural record with the P-T paths of rocks from the central area of the Roc de Frausa Massif located at different distances from a deep-seated gabbro-diorite intrusion in order to depict which parts of the history are common and what is the effect of the intrusion in the transfer of heat through the crust. The aim of this stay was to date by U-Pb SHRIMP-RG different Variscan magmatic and metamorphic rocks from the eastern Pyrenees at Stanford USGS Micro-Analytical Center (SUMAC), School of Earth Sciences, Stanford University. The obtained ages will allow us to compare it with neighbouring areas and to constrain the evolution of the late stages of Variscan orogeny in the eastern Pyrenees.
