With more than 18 years’ experience as a counsellor, I am committed to supporting women, men and families around parenting, disability, lifespan transitions, grief and loss, and perinatal mental health. I have a long-standing interest in how transitions and changes across the lifespan affects people differently. I am passionate about the transition to parenthood and the impact this can have on all aspects of a client’s life, particularly when diagnosed disability adds to the complexity and grief that is already associated with this time of life. I believe during this often-isolating time, connecting into appropriate counselling services is essential in maintaining the mental health of the family unit. Of further benefit is my experience in managerial roles within government and non-government agencies. Within these roles I have provided clinical supervision to a number of counsellors, case managers and support workers to encourage best practice. Practice areas of interest o Transition to parenthood. o Grief and loss. o Expectations vs reality. o Disability. o Perinatal mental health. o Complex family relationships. o General counselling. o Clinical supervision. Therapeutic approach My counselling framework is guided by an integrative theories approach to therapy, as I believe that by drawing on a number of different theories including Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Strength-Based, Person-Centred and Attachment Informed Therapy allows for a more individualised treatment plan. I strongly believe that clients are the experts in their own life. Show less
