In this role, I have the responsibility for introducing and implementing an S1000D Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETP) capability into EOS on an R4i system. Included in this implementation is the authoring of documents using Simplified Technical English. Working with the Engineering and ILS groups of EOS, both domestically and internationally, the role is to support the business with the production of technical documentation and training artefacts that are world-class. As part of a small team, my role involves the reviewing and editing of technical documentation prepared by European Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). The documentation is for equipment being installed on to the two Auxiliary Replenishment Oilers (AOR) being built by Navantia for the Royal Australian Navy. In reviewing and editing, my task is to ensure that the documentation supplied by the OEMs conforms to the rigid quality requirements as defined by Def(Aust) 5629B Production of Military Technical Manuals and Def(Aust) 5000 RAN Technical Publication Requirements, including language, safety, presentation and fitness for purpose.

This included the analysis of the browser-based front-end of the system to develop additional test cases, detailed requirements analysis, and reviews to improve product documentation. This is being performed through close co-operation with the Xacom CEO, US-based product development team, Project Manager and Lead Software Engineer. Xacom is a principal sub-contractor to Motorola, the Prime System Integrator in a project sponsored by the South Australian Government. As the Technical Writer my responsibilities were to reformat legacy project documentation and develop new documentation to government standards. This involved working closely with the Xacom CEO, Lead Software Engineer, Project Manager and other SMEs in the production of software and hardware test plans, all within tight time-frames. Towards the end of my contract, and after delivering the required documentation, my tasking was shifted to the development of templates and the writing of procedures to document the production of hardware for the Production Department.
