Developed and optimized cell culture processes to produce a monoclonal antibody and supported manufacturing activities. Besides, upstream processes such as mammalian cell culture, process mapping of cell culture parameters, and operation of bioreactors were conducted. In addition, I performed daily analysis of cell culture performance which includes monitoring of pH, CO2, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Glucose, Lactate, Cell viability, and Viable Cell Density (VCD). I studied the regulation of the bacterium Bacillus subtilis to metal ions as an adaptive response to survive under osmotic, ionic, and general stressful conditions. Additionally, I measured the promoter activity of mpfA that encodes a putative main magnesium efflux pump in B. subtilis, and its paralog yhdT, under NaCl, KCl, cobalt, magnesium, glutamate, and ethanol stressful conditions by luciferase assay technique. Finally, it was determined if yhdQ, a putative transcriptional regulator, regulates yhdT under the conditions tested by inserting a yhdQ mutation in B. subtilis cells Show less

Under the guidance of Dr. Maria PlazaDetermined of sugars in papayas fruits treated with sodium benzoate and chitosan with carnauba wax by HPLC method. The main purpose of this research was to set a relationship between amount of total sugars and ripening stage in papayas. The use of waxes was in order to decrease or retard the ripening stage and the appearance of Anthracnose (Colletotrichum Gloeosporioides) disease in the fruits.

Under the guidance of graduate student Yoriann Cabrera and Dr. Maria PlazaTo increase the quality and extend the shelf life of the Carica Papaya L. fruits after harvest with edible films applying sodium benzoate and chitosan with carnauba wax. Evaluation of post-harvest treatments to reduce Anthracnose injuries (Colletotrichum Gloeosporioides) evaluating the incidence and severity of it in three papaya treatments as yield, susceptibility and fruit quality. Determine physical and chemical properties of the treatments applied in papayas, such as: texture, mass, color, pH, water activity, ethylene, CO2 and oxygen levels, acidity and Vitamin C content, and Brix degrees.
