    • Research Internship: Renewable Energy Transitions in Remote Developing Contexts
      • Mar 2018 - Aug 2018

For my Master's thesis I worked with NGO Hivos on the Sumba Iconic Island project, conducting field research for two months. On the remote Indonesian island of Sumba, Hivos is currently initiating a renewable energy transition together with the Indonesian government, international and local NGOs, and investors. My role was to analyse how the newly founded local service company RESCO contributes to making the interventions sustainable, and possibly providing opportunities to upscale its business to other Indonesian islands. I conducted interviews and focus group discussions with a range of stakeholders from the local community, NGOs, investors, and the Indonesian government. - Conducted qualitative and quantitative research for MSc thesis - Provided recommendations to improve the solar leasing business model of local SMEs to: 1) better target different consumer segments and improve financial sustainability; and 2) stimulate learning across solar PV agents to stimulate a climate transition. - Analysed the importance of public-private partnerships between impact investors, NGOs, and local energy agents. Master's thesis completed with an 8.7/10. Show less
