  Unspirals (Desespirais) is a project I have been developing for over 20 years that involves upcycling industrial leftovers of EVA and other materials. The pieces can be made and remade indefinitely, as they are created without the use of glue or other chemical adhesives, following principles of circular design / design for disassembly.   The International Development Design Summit is an intense, hands-on design experience that brings together people from all over the world and all walks of life to create technologies and enterprises that improve the lives of people living in poverty. Unlike most academic conferences, we emphasize the development of prototypes, not papers and proceedings. In moving the technologies on the path from idea to implementation to impact we aim to create real ventures, not just business plans. IDDS is part of the revolution in design that aims to encourage, promote, and build more research and development resources that focus on the needs of the world’s poor.   I have developed products and technologies designed to reduce industrial waste of e.v.a. (ethyl-vynil-acetate), a material that presumably can´t be recycled and which is commonly destined to Brazilian landfills. In order to optimize the environmental impact of this project, I have founded and leaded project EVAMARIA, developing productive chains of material transformation, using e.v.a. refuse as raw material for the creation of art pieces and functional objects, and having as eventual partners/co-creators those who are too impaired or too old or too female or too crazy to make a living out of anything other than being an artist.
