I have worked on a dozen major print and Web-based curricula, for target ages ranging from pre-K through high school. I have written and edited lessons and tutorials in the spheres of technology, science, language arts, history, social studies and math, designed for both classroom and non-formal settings. The subject matter has been broad in scope, from how to ride a bicycle or give a speech to how to build a circuit or design a model solar race car. The products have been distributed via print or Web modules, YouTube and iTunesU. Bicycle Adventures, a four-part cycling curriculum for preK-12, was the best-selling non-agriculture themed, nationally distributed 4-H learning project for four consecutive years. I also write resource materials for educating the public about environmental issues. One of my broadest-reaching projects of this kind was Discover North Carolina River Basins, a series of printed and online promotional materials designed to foster appreciation of the outdoors in North Carolina. Each of 17 regional brochures contains a field guide to hiking, biking and paddling. Nearly a million posters, booklets and brochures have reached the public via classrooms, outdoor retailers, state and national parks, and N.C. Welcome Centers. Current/former clients include Duke University Pratt School of Engineering, N.C. State University, National 4-H, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences/National Institutes of Health, N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, Museum of Life and Science, and the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Show less

I was on the writing team to develop interpretive content for the Museum's flagship gallery, Mountains to the Sea, which spans two floors and covers 7,000 square feet. I consulted with staff researchers and editors and members of the science community at-large to develop accurate, engaging and concise natural history stories for visitors. The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is the largest museum of its kind in the Southeastern United States, drawing 1.2 million visitors a year at last count. Show less

I developed story ideas, researched and wrote articles, worked with freelance contributors, took photographs and helped guide graphic identity. I worked with grant recipients (biologists, fisheries experts, economists, etc.) to publicize and explain their research activities to the general public and other target audiences. Show less
