During my term of employment working as a summer intern under Technical Service Department, my main responsibilities are to perform PLM system administration duties including data input, transfer from PDM, monitoring of systems, tracking, documentation of systems with liaising with vendors and cross-function teams. Apart from utilising various types of software to perform technical duties, I have gained a greater understanding of the construction of a garment by analyzing its patterns. The feasibility of the design of a garment is determined by pattern development and construction techniques. As a result, any alterations to the patterns of a basic garment pattern are able to create a point of difference to the design of the garment. This work experience allows me to realise that Technical service acts as a significant role in the fashion business to assist garment companies with designing and manufacturing of various types of clothing. Expectation economy is a rising phenomenon that addresses consumers constant rising expectations for products and services. As a childrenswear business, Carter’s technical service department highly values the safety of children. Safety protection design is therefore embedded into the childrenswear garment design and Carter’s minimum construction standards are established to ensure the business is able to produce standardised products that are safe for children to wear. All things considered, this position was a precious opportunity for me to get to know the correlation between fashion and business and enabled me to learn a wide range of knowledge from my team numbers that are unable to be acquired from a textbook.
