  GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a competitive grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education to high-risk communities to develop comprehensive, research-driven programs to prepare low-income, minority and first-generation students for higher education. Student participating in this program receive tutoring, mentoring, enhanced advisement from counselors.

  The Arkansas Studio Project is a nonprofit literacy program working to bring reading, writing, and art into the everyday lives of underserved students in Northwest Arkansas, founded on the knowledge that young people who experience the power of literacy and art for education and self-expression will become lifelong learners and creators.The students in the Arkansas Studio Project, ranging from grades 6-11, were English language learners, gifted and talented students, and special education students.ASP is a partnership between the University of Arkansas and the Springdale School District.
