I worked with Candace for four years at Serco Docklands (Light Railway). Candace is a great all-round HR Professional with a broad and in-depth knowledge of all key HR areas. She is very good at understanding the needs of her internal clients and delivering high quality outputs. Candace has a great attention for detail and is tenacious in completing her tasks and projects, and she is also great fun to work with.

Serco operates the Barclays Cycle Hire Contract, Traffic Systems Contract and the Rail Technical Services Contract under the Transport umbrella. In partnering these contracts I work with the Executive Board to drive the business forward by designing and implementing HR systems and processes that support strategic business aims. As part of a divestment I was responsible for the TUPE process on the Traffic Systems Contract, for all of the employees to a new contract provider and ensuring this was done within the TUPE guidelines.Key Achievements include:• Support overall strategy and annual improvement plans. • 50% reduction in absence levels through introduction of a new absence policy and introduction of return to work interviews. • Successfully supporting the business through the transition to an HR shared service for operational HR issues. • Managed change projects including restructures, redundancy and TUPE harmonisation• Partnered with the senior management team to identify key ER and engagement issues across the workforce and deliver business focussed solutions. • HR compliance focusing on audit preparation and documentation for the site, including a recent right to work project. In this role I was responsible for providing a professional HR advisory service to staff at all levels across the business and applying my knowledge of current employment legislation, Company policies and business objectives to ensure all employee related issues are resolved in an efficient and effective manner. This was a generalist role covering all aspects of operational HR including recruitment, manpower planning, motivation, reward, retention, staff engagement, absence and discipline and grievance issues.Key achievements include:Olympic Games – Docklands Light RailwayOver the Olympic Games Period, the DLR carried almost 12 million passengers and achieved record performance levels. This meant delivering extended services with 45, 000 additional staff hours.• Developed a strategy for the successful recruitment of staff in preparation for the 2012 Games and worked to retain them until successful delivery of the Games. • Worked with the recognised union to deliver 32 Games time team rosters and a reward and incentive plan. • Key member of the Crisis Management Team during the Games period, providing 24/7 cover to railway operations, responsible for welfare, staff, union and volunteers. Designed and implemented the complete recruitment process for the safety critical role of Passenger Service Agent and rolled-out Assessment Centres for the selection process. This led to over seventeen hundred applications and resulted in fifty offers of employment. Designed a new induction process for the business, incorporating group and local information. Worked closely with Line Managers to reduce both short and long term absence, conducting case reviews and referrals with the OH provider, home visits and review employees.
