I’ve had the pleasure of working with Can as the editor of the forthcoming English translation of his best-selling German-language book Racer-Story, which offers a not-often-seen view into the mind of a champion motorcycle racer. Can has proven himself to be an ambitious, talented business person in search of the American Dream while remaining well-grounded and dedicated to his family. His experience and talents as a world-class racer have given him the expertise to run a successful racing school, allowing him to pass his knowledge on to the next generation of motorcyclists and racing enthusiasts.

Coach Can Akkaya trained me for one day at Thunderhill racetrack. During the day of class room teaching, and on the track work I saw vast improvements in various skills for riding a motorcycle at speed on a track. One example, I saw a 20 mph increase through one corner from the beginning of the day to the end! Coach Can has the skill to help anybody become a better rider. He's great!

Psychology Of Racing

Sep 2006 - Present
In these days of more competitive motorcycle racing, both in the professional and age group ranks, the focus is more now than ever on improving riding techniques. People are obsessed with the riding performance and success, but it seems the psychology of racing is going for the most part ignored. Racing in this day and age has become far more of a mental game. Shoulder to shoulder racing is far more common now than ever before and a handy edge is often held by the person with the better focus and the mental ‘smarts’ to be able to hang tough ‘til the end.The best example of this is Valentino Rossi - you could see the focus in his eyes - It was almost like he was in a time warp of his own. He never looked ragged, his form was always perfect and I’ll bet his focus was total performance orientated and this takes practice. To block out counter productive thoughts is a very difficult thing to do, but with practice and some good guidelines it can be achieved very successfully. So this became part of my way to coach riders, and it is based on my own experiences and from many years working with students:NEGATIVE THINKINGPRE RACE AROUSALCALM / OPTIMUM FOCUSRACE MORNING / STRATEGIESDURING RACE
