      • Working with at risk youth, aged 6-17, in a residential trauma treatment facility. Children are there because of severe behavioral, emotional, and psychological acting out. The patients are either admitted by their guardians or DCS, as a step before foster care. • My role as a mental health associate involves working with up to 12 children at a time, to help patients adhere to their treatment programs (see below), facilitating a psychological education (psych-ed) group, helping children with daily chores like hygiene and cleaning, as well as doing various other paperwork daily, such as completing observational rounds every 15 minutes for each student. • The patient treatment programs involve setting goals for themselves to grow and heal from their traumatic experiences. o Goals may include talking to their therapist and creating a “trauma timeline”, creating boundaries, interacting positively with peers and staff, contracting for safety (working towards not harming themselves or others), and finding/utilizing coping skills. • In the case of acting out, I employ de-escalation skills and intervention techniques taught through TCI training (see professional training) to avoid a dangerous situation (e.g., self-mutilating behaviors, physical aggression, elopement, etc.). o If the situation cannot be avoided, I work with team members to physically restrain the child acting out in the appropriate and safe way.

I cleaned patient rooms after they were discharged. This included a full deep clean of the room, including bathrooms, and making the room look presentable for the next guest. I also did daily cleanings of public areas/restrooms as well as nurses stations/restrooms. I cleaned patient rooms after they were discharged.
