Originally my job description had described carrying out Non-Compartmental Analysis (NCA), attending Study Team Meetings (SMTs) and providing support to senior clinical pharmacologists on studies. This support included but was not limited to: Producing visualisations and outputs from pharmacokinetic patient trial data and reviewing appropriate literature from similar clinical trials to aid in dose-related decision-making. However, in my time at Roche, I was supported in developing my programming skills, specifically in R, whilst working on a project focused on the use of R as an alternative software to perform NCA analysis (as opposed to the Phoenix software already in use). This project proceeded to take up most of my time and effort but proved to be extremely rewarding. It helped several senior clinical pharmacologists with their NCA workload and quality of output as well as encouraging Roche to employ three more placement students for the following year (as opposed to the two during my year). It is also worth mentioning that this was the first year that the clinical pharmacology function had taken on placement students, so the experience was very much an experimental one, proving to be extremely successful for all involved.
