My role requires that I maintain the content of various tax books and tax commentary. This involves writing new commentary, updating the commentary to reflect changes, or peer reviewing another writer's work. To be specific, I contribute to: Preparing Your Income Tax Returns, Preparing Your Corporate Tax Returns, Canadian Master Tax Guide, Canadian Tax Reporter Commentary, Tax Planning for Small Business, and Tax Topics, to name a few. When working on these publications, I research by consulting the Income Tax Act, case law, and CRA documents. I also spend a lot of my time staying up-to-date on the latest tax developments by reading legislative proposals, case summaries, and CRA interpretations. My contributions also include writing articles for newsletters (such as Tax Topics) and keeping the Wolters Kluwer Tax Centre blog up-to-date with current tax developments. Show less

I educated financial advisors and internal employees on tax and estate planning topics of varying breadth and complexity. To elaborate, I provided advisors with general tax and estate planning information as it pertained to their client's situation (often relating the subject matter back to seeing the client's full financial situation from a holistic point-of-view).To locate information, I was researched using various sources which often included: the Income Tax Act, CCH Online, Knotia, case law, CRA documents, and other 3rd-party commentary. The research aspect of this role also demanded that I remained up-to-date on latest changes to tax and estate law. This included reviewing the latest noteworthy cases and CRA interpretations, as well as staying on top of federal budgets and draft legislation. When following up to emails, my written responses were extensive (often multi-page) and discussed the many considerations that surrounded the tax or estate planning issue at hand.I also provided high-level information pertaining to specific legal topics such as trust law, power ofattorney, bankruptcy, family law, probate planning, and estate settlement. The role also required me to update several of the tax and estate planning bulletins that we published for the use of our clients and investors.
