I oversee the development and implementation of the art program's curriculum, for the K-8th grade levels. Have directly taught 2nd-8th grade classrooms, and currently teach 5th-8th grade while providing instructional guidance and assistance to the K-4th grade art classes. I have developed the art program to have a strong focus on fundamental, studio-driven practices that rely on research based methods to help students learn and develop their skills and understanding. Students have varying degrees of accessibility to the arts, and by fostering a systematic approach to drawing, painting, sculpting, and all other fields within the umbrella of fine arts, students are able to bridge their skills between mediums. It is my philosophy that art is a space between play, discovery, and work, and that students show growth by embracing the problems they encounter with an open mind and a willingness to develop their unique solutions. Regarding research; by creating connections to other areas of our lives, as a classroom of young minds we are able to more rapidly build connections between the arts and other areas of study as we encounter them. Arts, social community, STEM, and beyond are all deeply woven together. Show less

I am a Houston-born and based artist holding a BFA in Painting from the University of Houston School of Art, and an MFA in Painting from the University of Florida School of Art and Art History. My paintings have been exhibited in the Blaffer Museum, and my drawings have been printed in the national, award winning literary magazine Glass Mountain. My practice is rooted in exploring everyday objects and spaces in order to question and challenge their connection to, and separation from, Art. I work in traditional and emerging mediums such as painting, drawing, installation, performance, and virtual reality simulation. Show less
