    • Maintenance Fitter and Engineering Draftsman
      • Jan 1981 - May 1988

Attained my trade in 1st Class machining, fitting and turning. This was a great place to learn a trade as there was tremendous opportunity to advance many skills due to the comprehensive nature of the business. As a foundry, the company made moulded ferrous and non-ferrous parts for the transport, automotive, pumping and agricultural sectors to name a few and then machined and assembled into operating products for sale. As a maintenance fitter my role encompassed the entire plant which as over 5 hectares of closely nestled equipment. I often worked on CNC, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, robotic, semi automatic, fully automatic machines as well as manually operated. I was involved in heat treating, coreing, plumbing, moulding, engine assembly, galvanising, pressing and many other areas. I also learnt tool making, CNC programming and operation. I spent a lot of time in the administration side of maintenance detailing and recording machine history and drafting new designs and retro developing broken parts. Show less
