One goal was to improve my interpersonal communication as a team member. I was able to accomplish this by taking initiative in conversations by delegating work and listening to my team members. I’ve seen how communication and trust are necessary for the success of a project. Furthermore, my experience working on the Panama Cargo Lift team has taught me transferable engineering skills such as familiarity with survey equipment and concrete foundation design. A significant moment occurred during my Collaboratory experience when my team traveled to Panama for a survey trip in October 2017. During the trip I was able to spend time with my academic advisor and our client, discussing ways I can educate and prepare myself for my future as a professional engineer. My experience as a team member working on the Panama Cargo Lift has also taught me about initiative. This was particularly evident when our team was given new survey equipment and I had to teach myself and then others how to use our new gear. My student project manager and academic advisors have imparted wisdom and experience into my life. I anticipate continued growth in my communication and leadership skills.
