I worked with Calum during his time at Premier and always found him keen and helpful. He was always eager to learn. Later I jumped at the chance to use him for a variety of tasks in support of my own clients. We used Calum for various offshore inspection roles, CAD work and also as a client rep. My only regret is that we didn't have a full time role to offer him. Any company that hires Calum won't regret it, he's a fine young engineer and an asset to any organisation.

I was Calum’s industrial supervisor during both of his summer internships with Premier Oil. I found Calum to be very hard working, diligent and able to manage multiple work fronts whilst delivering to a high standard. What stood out for me was Calum’s enthusiasm and drive to get the job done. He was also able to strike a good balance between being self-sufficient and asking for help at the right time, without being either too siloed or too needy. I would recommend Calum to any future employer and would work with him again without hesitation.

Tasked with sorting and then delivering mail on foot and by van to various locations in Nairn. Excellent job for keeping active and staying in touch with the local community through lockdown. Tasked with editting 3D CAD files associated with several offshore wind turbine substation jacket structures to allow for better visibility of individual components. This involved applying an appropriate naming convention to each respective jacket member and visibly labelling them using CAD software. Following this, I combined the 3D CAD files with relevant subsea inspection footage and data using the asset integrity management software "Dataverse." Summer Intern - Subsea Operations
-
Jun 2020 - Sep 2020
Final assessed industrial placement completed remotely as part of my Fast-track MEng Mechanical Engineering degree where I returned to work as part of the Subsea Operations team. Awarded "A" grade following academic assessment. •Managed the first stage of the annual Catcher FPSO Flexible Riser Annulus Integrity Works. This involved tendering, technical review of proposals, chairing the kick off meeting and use of Maximo to raise purchase orders. •Following on from my MEng individual project, completed in partnership with Premier Oil, I formalised the work into a company technical note. This will allow the company to identify critical pipeline free span sections by referring to the maximum allowable free span length values outlined in the technical note. •Developed an easy to use cross asset RBI tool for subsea equipment and infrastructure. This involved combining information from separate documents into a structured and smart excel spreadsheet. •Successfully participated in a group project with fellow interns involving the company wide roll out of the "Life Saving Rules." Jun 2019 - Sep 2019
First assessed industrial placement completed as part of my Fast-track MEng Mechanical Engineering degree where I worked as part of the Subsea Operations team. Awarded "A" grade following academic assessment. •Developed an organised system for cataloguing pipeline related regulatory correspondence. This involved liaising with various teams to establish a system fit for purpose. I also created a user manual on how to navigate and update the system. •Specified and implemented enhancements to the pipeline and subsea inspection management system "Dataverse." •Successfully implemented a modified version of the subsea inspection management system as a live data logging tool during a structural ROV inspection on the Balmoral FPV. This involved working closely with the ROV inspection coordinator. •While offshore I also spent time with the mechanical maintenance team and the ROV operators who gave me valuable insight into the challenges faced offshore and the effective safety culture required. •Successfully identified a topic for my MEng individual project "Analysis of Allowable Free Span Length for Offshore Subsea Pipelines."
