I spent 8 weeks assisting the teacher in delivering animation related lessons for a group of 17 young people between the ages of 8 - 16 on Saturday mornings, alongside my degree. This was very rewarding and I enjoyed conveying my passion for animation to a younger generation. During this time I took the teaching role to deliver a session on character design.

Throughout my time at Babcock I worked on many projects, including 3D modelling of the torpedo tube door in NX, updating engineering drawings to new standards, creating new engineering drawings and investigating and writing Non-conformance Reports of components. This was an admin role alongside my Design role. My role was to be the main contact between Atkins (including clients working for us) and Airbus for account access. This required me to create and manage the user accounts that allow access to multiple programs such as Zamiz, DPDS, PDMLink, CATIA, etc. I had to help people through the application forms to request access to each program, then I had to respond to these requests when they were sent to the UEA inbox and forward them onto Airbus for further processing. On some projects I had been required to manage the roles and responsibilities of up to 45 accounts from external companies. Show less

A350-900 & A350-1000 Wing Linear DFEM – I took the main design role and was therefore responsible for the co-ordination between design and 5 stress engineers and ensured the correct data was being provided. I produced a spreadsheet tracker and kept it updated with all data extracted by Atkins or Airbus to ensure there were no repetitions. I lead the comparison of the -900 and -1000 models and presented the findings to show the percentage change so it could be presented to Airbus and justify how much of the DFEM needed to be re-modelled.Main tools: PDMLink, Enovia VPM, CATIA V5. Graduate Innovation Challenge – The challenge was for two teams to both design and build a Unmanned Aeriel Vehicle (UAV) using a set budget and to meet a set of criteria. It had to be able to complete a set circuit where it would pick up and deliver a 1kg payload as well as having the ability to travel a 200km distance. We had a team of 12 people and I was the main Designer producing the CAD model of the aircraft in CATIA V5 while working with the Stress Engineers for the sizing. 6 of us then built the UAV from a mix of materials including composites. GE A350 Design – Working as part of a team of Designers to update CATParts, Drawings and BOM on all of the buttstraps and some brackets across the wing to 2015 standards. We were required to produce new drawing set numbers, carry across the data still relevant from the current standard and update any new data. Some cases required new drawings to be created from fresh. There was constant communication with the Amsterdam and Bangalore offices as these teams were the checkers for our work.Main tools: PDMLink, Enovia VPM, CATIA V5. Show less

Bristol Eco-Flyer – This was a secondment from Atkins where I was onsite at Airbus. I was the main Composite Design Engineer for 8 months on a project run by Graduates and Apprentices. Throughout my placement I became the ‘owner’ of the Horizontal Tail Plane (HTP) of the aircraft meaning I was responsible for 3D modelling the HTP covers (skins), HTP Spar, HTP Ribs and the attachment to the Elevator. I presented some of my own new ideas about the design and materials used to the Senior Engineers ('experts') which were implemented into the design. UWE Glenside Measured Survey (Faithful & Gould placement) – Three month placement working for F&G (sector of Atkins) as the role of a surveyor to assist in updating the current maps of the site to a more accurate representation. This required site visits to UWE in full PPE to record measurements of the blocks including classrooms, kitchens, storage rooms, etc. Working in pairs we measured and recorded all dimensions of a room (including windows, doors, radiators, etc.). Once back in the office we used the new dimensions to form a true representation of site using AutoCAD. This project required constant communication between the pairs on site as well as with the client to ensure each aspect was carried out accurately. Main tools: AutoCAD Show less
