Callum worked for 2 years and 7 months under my direction as an Apprentice Chef, during this time he learnt and became fully confident and proficient in all culinary technical abilities within the school parameters. During this period he became extremely capable in producing all school meals under his own initiative and to a high standard of food production, whilst also becoming well versed in the administration aspect of the kitchen. Callum demonstrated a very positive and pro active approach to his job role, always showing a can do attitude and forward thinking approach to the specific job requirements. He has an outgoing personality and easily communicates with people of all levels having a good approach in managing individuals to obtain the best results from them in an encouraging and positive manner. Callum also was keen to give input into progressing the school catering operation and was always eager to put forward new ideas and initiatives to further this aim.

Alongside this role, I worked as Wellbeing Champion for the store and helped to promote physical, mental and financial well-being in the workplace. Whilst this role commenced as a way of helping fund my education, being employed by Sainsbury’s allowed me to gain awareness and knowledge of consumer expectations and have experience in conversing with customers and colleagues. In addition, working with such a large team of employees enhanced existing communication skills. Upon completion of my Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery (NVQ, Level 3), my role at Coopers Edge School progressed as a Teaching Partner. It was my responsibility to provide primary school aged children with basic cookery skills which they could utilise in the home environment. With nutrition at the foundation of each practical session, lessons were planned for Years 3 – 6 and cross-transferred other elements of the curriculum into the practical classroom and sought to develop pupils’ self-improvement, teamwork, attitude and time management skills.

Catering Assistant
-
Mar 2014 - Sep 2016
At the very early stages of my career I was fortunate enough to progress my culinary expertise alongside a chef of 50+ years experience. Industrial catering provided early experience of managing a small team, and developing financial/ budgeting, and customer service skills. To fulfil business needs I produced legislative documents such as risk assessments, allergen specifications and School Food Standards audits.
