As head coach my main responsibilities included organising session content, communicating with players, liaising with captains, parents and players, and organising training structure. In addition, I also liaised with the club chairman on club performance as well as additional training equipment to help develop players. Using statistical analysis from previous performances based on the club as well as developing performance plans helped with the structure of the sessions as well as giving clear aims and objectives as well as achievable goals which could be monitored and adjusted throughout the performance cycles during the season Show less

My role as a coach during the 2016 season for Down Hatherley Cricket club involved me setting up practice drills, coaching of young cricketers (ages between 4-9) leading warm ups and cool downs and conducting skills and games based activities, whilst giving feedback to players. My other responsibilities included liaising with parents and with Down Hatherley CC coaches and committee.

During the 2016 season I was fortunate to take the lead role as Head Coach. As part of my responsibilities, I would lead both theory and practical sessions with the squad, prepare material to aid using both multimedia and physical resources. D uring the summer fixtures I would alongside the other coaches and manager select the squad and lead on day as part of the warm-ups. My aim at the beginning of the season was to give the players the autonomy and freedom to play cricket and enjoy playing as a team. I was pleased with the overall result in winning our regional league, but also to see the development of the team, many of whom went on to represent the full county squad and are now representing teams as part of professional teams. As a coach to younger players, I am a firm believer that the aim should be to create an environment in which players understand that they can and it’s good to fail, as it gives us the ability to learn from our mistakes.
