As an Environmental Health and Safety Professional and Industrial Hygiene Specialist, I work to ensure the health and safety of Emory University and Emory Healthcare employees. My job functions include specialized training and response for Emory's Serious Communicable Disease Unit, hazardous spill response, respirator fit testing, noise monitoring, indoor air quality assessments, ergonomic assessments, accident investigations, safety & environmental compliance inspections for workplace safety, asbestos inspections and project supervision, various types of industrial hygiene monitoring, ensuring environmental compliance throughout Emory to OSHA and EPA standards, and training employees on a vast scale of safe work practices.

My senior year of college I worked as an intern for the Georgia EPA- working at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources- Environmental Protection Division where I studied USEPA guidance materials and performed sanitary surveys at public drinking water systems located within the Northeastern District. I developed skills such as report writing, data entry, global positioning system usage, utilization of chemical field kits, and interfacing with the regulated public. I participated in civil enforcement actions and evidence gathering activities with the mentoring of a career regulatory environmental specialist. I also received multi-media fieldwork and complaint training.

Confined space entry supervisor & general site safety

For three summers I worked as the confined space entry supervisor for the project and general site safety on a Spray Dryer assembly project in Savannah, GA, Wrens, GA, and Richburg SC. Working under the direction of the corporation safety director and general manager.I monitored workers inside the tanks to ensure everyone was working safely (tied off to rescue lines), monitored oxygen levels, PEL and LEL levels on air monitors, logged each man as they entered and exited the tanks, did daily equipment safety inspections as well as site safety paperwork and daily on-site safety checklists.
