During my second AmeriCorps service, I worked closely with Boulder Dreamers at Casey Middle School for a total of 675 service hours between the months of September 2013 and December 2013. I worked in conjunction with the I Have a Dream Foundation through tutoring students before and after school to help reenforce what they were learning in their classes and tracked their progress. As Director of Education program at the Commerce City branch of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, I worked closely with a diverse population of students ranging from ages 5 to 18 in Northwest Denver. I organized and ran the summer literacy retention program, supervised the Reading Coordinator, led numerous student organizations, and built a strong connection with the community. During my service, I organized community building events in refugee neighborhoods, created a student outreach program for area high school students to get involved with community service and AmeriCorps, and created a partnership with AmeriCorps and the DPS outdoor education center, Balarat, that is still in effect today.
