Chair of Community Outreach Committee
-
Jun 2016 - Dec 2016
Coordinates and helps to oversee community outreach initiatives through a small, dedicated committeeThese initiatives include: Future Nurses Club - a four year school program started to increase interest and knowledge in nursing for high school students. A curriculum is followed over the course of four years and every two years a large, day long field trip to the local hospital is organized and the high school kids are given tours of various areas of the hospital, opportunities to speak with staff, as well as hands on experience at education stations (such as CPR)What in the World - a partnership with the North Museum that holds career fairs for elementary school children to introduce them to STEAM careers. The COC provides nurses to help educate young children on the rapidly changing face and responsibilities of nursing today and pique their interest early. After School With Scrubs - a partnership with George Washington Elementary School through which nurses assist with an after school program that supports at risk children. Nursing volunteers act as mentors, tutors, and assist in serving an after school dinner.Stuff the Bus - created to assist the school identified in the Lancaster School District as being the most high risk (George Washington Elementary School) with supplying children with back to school items, school supplies, clothing, as well as much needed winter gear.
