I was one of the 5 students chosen to work with CALS (a legal human rights organisation) for a month. I was placed in the Civil and Political Justice Programme. I conducted research on legislation amendments and relevant cases. I then drafted memorandums to illustrate my findings and suggestions. This experience was extremely rewarding for me and reaffirmed my dedication and interest in social justice. I attended the BVPG vacation work programme in Cape Town. I spent some time in all sectors of their firm: Corporate and Commercial Law, Commercial Litigation, Property and Conveyancing, Labour and Estate Planning & Wills. This experience helped me gain a better understanding of Corporate and Commercial law in practice, as I attended High Court motions, witnessed the drafting of legal opinions and meetings with counsel. Walkers exposed me to the legal world. I job shadowed an attorney, read cases, made case summaries and visited the High Court. This initial exposure with law left me intrigued.
