As a placement student, I have the opportunity to work in collaboration with Teachers, ECEs, EAs and other childhood professionals in order to provide children with a safe and fun learning environment that will benefit their well-being and overall development. Based on what is being taught in the classrooms, I plan activities to implement during learning centres. I also take part in environmental set-ups and help wherever it is needed.

Medical Unit Clerk

As a Medial Unit Clerk I provide support services to nurses and assigned physicians in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit). Other duties include O.R. booking and scheduling, typing correspondence, patient flow, coordinating nurse and PSW schedules and payroll, responding to enquiries, monitoring and assisting patients, maintaining files, arranging accommodations, and providing additional clerical support services to the unit. During my time at this site, I had the opportunity to be a part of the Preschool classroom at Bergamot Early Learning Centre. Some things I took part in included assisting early childhood development staff, implementing activities that enhance physical, social, emotional, language and intellectual development, participating in outdoor playground play, and providing extra assistance when needed. As a youth leader, I was responsible for building a sense of community within the recreation centre to provide children with the opportunity for cognitive, social and physical development. Leading a range of activities in science, mathematics, art, physical education, technology and language arts. Also interacted with participants, parents, staff and the public to provide program information. At the Crèche Childcare Centre, I was in the Senior Preschool classroom therefore many of the children I was working with were getting ready to begin Kindergarten. This is a high-quality childcare program that provided children with different areas of learning using teaching techniques such as Visual, Tactile, Auditory, and Kinesthetic. This placement was just shadowing and observing what the ECE had been doing.
