As a Samaritan I am trained to support someone during real moments of distress and disappear. I am able to give my whole attention to each person I'm supporting, and empathise with their feelings without being overwhelmed myself, which is key. On an evening it is very easy to be consumed by someone's circumstances that it is easy to lose sight of your role and also to become distressed yourself. However, from the many years of volunteering I feel I have good balance of empathy and emotional control, to deal with tough emotional situations. Show less
