As an industrial placement student at GSK, I led a research project focusing on improving the expression and purification of a critical reagent. My roles ranged from hypothesis generation, lab work, data analysis, and presentation of results. I also undertook a variety of additional roles including a Health and Wellbeing leader and STEM ambassador. I volunteered to create a video advert for future placement students. I created a scheme linking 200 students within the school of Biosciences. Communication and delegation within a committee as well as faculty members were key to the success of the scheme. I established my own small business selling a variety of handmade products such as scrunchies, facemasks and hair accessories. I worked closely with customers to fulfil bespoke orders and managed all aspects of the business including accounts, resources and branding. I really enjoyed following the entire process from the conception of the business, evolution to meet customer needs, and optimizing profits and production timescales.
