Deliver operated High-Pressure/High-Temperature (HPHT) exploration well from post-capture to post-well closeout as project lead. Responsible for conducting core geoscience evaluation and coordinating effort between geoscientists, engineers, support functions, and management to deliver well on time and budget while meeting exploration objectives and building strong partner and regulatory relationships.Provide technical assurance and develop, share, and implement best practices for stochastic resource estimation, pore pressure/stress predictions, and internal well delivery process alongside relevant subject matter experts. Leverage experience in structural geology and salt tectonics to critically evaluate exploration prospects across business unit, including held acreage and New Ventures opportunities in the North Sea, West of Shetlands, and along the Atlantic coast of Canada and the west coast of Africa. Manage and collaborate with a highly talented and experienced technical team of engineers and geoscientists to evaluate and capture best-in-class exploration and appraisal opportunities in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico with an emphasis on technical excellence and strategic prudence. Deliver captured New Ventures projects to the company by organizing well delivery project teams and collaborating with staff across the organization and with partners before, during, and after drilling. Facilitate post-well evaluations and handover of successes to development. Assist exploration management with strategic plan for New Ventures within the organization by generating benchmarks and tracking key performance metrics to enable continuous improvement. Show less

Support general exploration, appraisal and development efforts in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico in integrated teams of geoscientists and engineers. Routinely integrate regional, seismic, well, and rock data to develop a holistic understanding of the key petroleum systems elements and the associated uncertainties in terrestrial and deepwater clastic plays. Prospect evaluations often include generating restored cross sections and assisting the staff geochemist with basin modeling efforts. Work closely with geologists, geophysicists, and reservoir engineers to generate deterministic and probabilistic volumetrics and assess geologic risks to support well recommendations and other investment decisions. Build and populate static models, incorporating facies models, rock properties (e.g., porosity, permeability), and saturation-height functions, for project reservoir engineers to assess recovery factor uncertainty. Utilize expertise in salt tectonics and structural geology to provide technical support to a variety of projects including fault mapping and property estimation, general seismic interpretation of structures related to salt tectonics, velocity model building, structural restorations, paleogeography, and pore pressure prediction/column height analysis. Interface and collaborate with technical experts from partner companies and academia as necessary.Develop custom programs in Excel, C++, and Matlab for reducing wellbore temperature data, analyzing regional heat flow and subsidence, predicting fracture pressure and wellbore stability, and modeling complex volumetric scenarios. Frequent presentations to peers, managers, and partners, including presentations at company-wide internal technical conferences. Co-develop, organize, and proctor classroom and field training courses for young industry professionals as well as experienced geoscientists. Show less

    • Intern
      • Jun 2007 - Aug 2009

Supported general exploration efforts in offshore Brazil (Campos and Santos Basins) with a secondary focus on the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Day-to-day activities focused on lead/prospect identification and evaluation in complex structural terranes associated with salt tectonics and continental rifting. Exploration-cycle prospect evaluation included mapping, risk assessment, and spreadsheet-based probabilistic volumetrics. Characterized geometry of salt welds in detail using 3D and 2D seismic mapping, attribute extraction, wedge modeling techniques, kinematic restorations/forward modeling, and well data to develop a proprietary methodology to predict cross-weld fluid flow that improved risk assessments for prospects in both post- and pre-salt plays in offshore Brazil. Integrated well data, seismic interpretation, and numerical models to identify challenges and quantify risks associated with drilling through salt in offshore Brazil and the Gulf of Mexico. Summer internships culminated in a general review and presentation with executive management, but more technical and comprehensive reviews were provided to all interested stakeholders. Collaborated with Human Resources to recommend policies designed to improve the quality of the intern program. Show less
