As a Corporal I am in usually in charge of groups of people anywhere from small groups to up to 30 or 40 people and have received formal leadership training from the Australian Defence Force and passed all assessments with ease. My role at my unit involves planning for and ordering materials for jobs that arise, delegating people for tasks, creating precedence diagrams to plan for when each task is needing to be completed and organising deliveries/manpower based on this, preparing and delivering lessons, assisting with junior members administration, supervising live shoots at the range and sitting in meetings to decide plans for jobs to do.

As a carpenter in the Army I was expected to have the knowledge and skills to complete all construction tasks other than plant work, plumbing and electrical work. During my time in the Army I completed many small construction tasks and was also deployed to • Fregon, South Australia & Titjikala, Northern Territory for the Army Aboriginal Community Assistance Program building Community Centres and housing for the remote communities; • Dili, East Timor for Pacific Partnership building a school kitchen and furniture for Comoro Intermediate School; • Bougainville, Papua New Guinea to fix broken houses in the community caused by old ordinance destruction, and to build facilities for temporary camps. During the time I had been in the Army it was also the carpenters job to maintain the workshop and build various projects to keep a high standard in the workshop, and to ensure my skills didn’t deteriorate. I was also trained in the role of Combat Engineer which involved being trained in heavy weapons, explosives, mines/IED search, tear gas training and sleep deprivation.
