As student staff at Anderson's library, I essentially assist the librarian in all of the library's normal operations. Among duties like monitoring students' behavior inside, upkeeping of all technology, and answering any library-related questions, I am responsible for the library running smoothly. I have learned to efficiently and confidently answer student questions and provide a pleasant experience for the students. The excel and shelving elements of the job have taught me how to be more organized in the workplace as well. I work the two night shifts where there is no librarian present, during which I take on the main responsibility of maintaining the entire library. I ensure the library closes in an organized and timely fashion at the end of the shift. This role has taught me resourcefulness and leadership- I have to create reasonable solutions for any problems that arise during the shift as the main authority. I have had to gather a strong working knowledge of the library operations to handle any questions and conflicts on my own. Show less

    • Host/Expo
      • Jun 2020 - Aug 2020

At towne tavern, I played a strong supporting role as both a host and expo, with my role changing depending on the day and occasionally the hour. As a host I was mainly involved in customer service. My responsibility was to greet all customers and seat them in an organized and fair fashion for the servers, as well as clean off tables and take to-go orders on the phone. This role taught me how to be an asset to all parties in the restaurant- I commonly cooperated with the customers, servers, kitchen staff, and managers to create an effective and timely customer experience. I was also the first point of contact in the restaurant- I learned how to be pleasant and patient in dealing with all different types of customers and how to deal with conflict. As an expo, my role had much more to do with organization. I had to organize elements of meals ahead of time as tickets came in so that we could stay ahead of orders in the kitchen. I also had to deliver the food to tables and curbside cars in a timely fashion. This role taught me how to work in a timely and organized fashion and to handle pressure. Rush hours at the restaurant required focus and composure- there were many moving parts, and mistakes were very costly. I learned to communicate constantly with my coworkers to stay on the same page and deliver/bag meals as quickly as possible without errors. Show less
