I am unable to convey the type of manager Bruce is without making him sound TOO nice. He is a good tech leader. The problem is that he is truly a nice person too, and I have met so few of those in my life that I feel it really warrants highlighting. Bruce's ability to hire great people is unsurpassed. The commitment, talent, and collaboration I was surrounded by on his team was amazing. Not only were they some of the most helpful and friendly people I have ever worked with, but they also know what they were doing! The ratio of high performers is the greatest I have ever come across, and has only risen. A number of team members started at a similar time as I did and as they have come up to speed their productivity has skyrocketed. Bruce is a tremendous person. Meetings that had both technical and business people in them saw Bruce hold his own in both areas. He has a great ability to recall details and explain the complexity of a system, but then also stop a conversation and have everyone take a step back and look at the bigger picture when needed. He was well respected by groups across the organization and sought after for opinions on what was needed to get the next big project done! When business priorities were unclear Bruce would step in to clarify priorities. His teams were always ready to step up and do what was needed. Pivot to a customer issue, special project, deal with finance, take on a new challenge, his people would just make it happen. The level of respect and trust between team members was driven by Bruce's example, and was exemplified by how well the team brought on new people and worked together to be successful. Bruce shows that it is possible to be effective and NICE! He will know your kids' names or where you like to fish AND he will get things done!

I have worked with Bruce many years as a software engineering peer and, as he took on more management responsibilities, as a technology leader. From the beginning, he was deeply involved in the coding, database design, and architectural design of a large portion of our company web site. Additionally, he wrote other software components and integrations which are in use today. Even as leadership responsibilities grew, he would seek out ways to spend as much time in the code as possible. As a leader, Bruce has used his experience to help guide technical solutions for the business. Using his software development skills, he is an effective problem solver. I have seen him work with others multiple times to break down technical barriers to guide projects to completion. He does a great job communicating with both internal colleagues and external partners. He is focused on improving processes and the business’s product offerings. Bruce is thoughtful and caring to all those around him, particularly those he leads. It has been a pleasure to work with Bruce these many years.
