Designed a biaxial loading mechanism, driven by 4 manual lead-screws, for the controlled strain of elastomeric research materials. Machined all custom parts for the loader and performed final assembly. Developed a MATLAB script to investigate designs for an efficient, low-temperature differential heat exchanger in tropical climates. Designed a passive magnetic levitation system for the team’s first prototype competition vehicle. Ran an exhaustive array of ANSYS Maxwell simulations of Halbach magnet arrays passing over a stationary electrically conductive track to predict lift and drag forces produced by eddy currents. Using the properties of commercially available permanent magnets, developed a model of the lift height-lift force-velocity relationship as well as the lift-drag ratio across a range velocities. Using that model, chose a total number of Halbach arrays needed to support total pod mass at a desired lift height. Designed the mechanical housing and structure for the arrays as well as the mounting interface to the pod structure. Machined a majority of the components for the subsystem. Led final subsystem assembly. Provided general design and manufacturing support as one of the team leads. Show less

Owned the design of 5 custom parts for the AC Powerwall DCAC inverter. Designed 2 formed aluminum busbars. Ran Ohmic heating simulations to characterize busbar thermal performance. Optimized busbar design by simulating several geometry/material combinations and performing cost comparisons. Designed 2 wire harnesses. Modeled complex harness geometries in CAD. Designed a formed sheet metal EMI shield, with compliant “snap” features that allow it to be easily installed onto the inverter’s DCDC transformers. Performed hands-on work for design prototyping and test bring-up. Show less

Raised $6,500 to found an FRC team at my high school. Recruited local professional engineers for mentorship. Led the mechanical design of the team’s competition robot. Designed a Frisbee launcher and loader inspired by the working principles of a baseball pitching machine. Led machining, fabrication and assembly of many robot components. Led testing and maintenance of assembled robot. Acted as Team Captain at the San Diego FRC Regional. Raised $6,500 to found an FRC team at my high school.
