  The dynamic of this small-town diner led to the development of communication, active listening, and problem-solving skills, since being a waitress meant more than simply waiting tables. When I began this position in high school, I learned the basics of being a cashier, how to hold the floor as lead waitress, became disciplined as a kitchen porter, and would often join the cook between waiting tables to help with meal preparation. As I developed my skills in food preparation and food safety, I was promoted to grill cook during the last few months of holding the position. Show less
