My current job is working for Loma Linda Murrieta as a Patient Care Assistant (PCA), working alongside RN's and other PCA's. In my time here, I have further expanded my nursing knowledge of performing skills such as EKG's, performing vital signs, interacting and collaborating with physicians, and understanding the concept of time management. Every day is learning how to balance between 12-20 patients, and understanding how to cluster care even with activities of daily living. Accomplishing working with so many patients includes communicating with 4-5 nurses a day, identifying what patient needs have to be handed off to the nurse, or trying to figure out what I can do to solve the problems. An example of this would be taking a patients vital signs and seeing a low oxygen saturation. I would first try to get a new probe, then retake it, and if it was still low I would try the other hand. If the O2 continues to be low, contacting the nurse would be the next step. In this job, teamwork is a huge asset, as exampled by collaborating and communicating with nurses and other PCA's. Teamwork has become a big part of my routine at this job, and I know it would continue into working as an RN. Show less

Throughout my time at the College of Nursing at California Baptist University, I have worked at various hospitals including Parkview, RUHS, Loma Linda, and Rancho Springs Medical Center. It has taught me many skills and how to grow in caring for patients, due to witnessing patients at their most vulnerable. These experiences have allowed me to grow in my confidence in performing skills, such as inserting a peripheral IV, inserting indwelling catheters, obtaining blood draws, and working on how to use various IV pumps. I have learned the different units of nursing including medical-surgical, pediatrics, labor and delivery, postpartum, ICU, ER, and have seen a little bit of the OR. My experiences in clinicals have led me to become a compassionate nurse, looking at the patient as a whole person and providing the best with confidence. Show less

  • Murrieta Health and Rehab
    • Murrieta, California, United States
    • Certified Nursing Assistant
      • Mar 2021 - Jun 2021

My biggest job at Murrieta Health and Rehab was aiding in activities of daily living, which included bathing, grooming, showering, feeding, and walking. As nights went on, my duties would include getting residents ready for bed, and helping with whatever they asked such as bed time snacks. I would answer call lights promptly and report to the LVN's anything within their scope, such as a medication request. A lot of the care also included comfort measures and providing residents with whatever made them the most comfortable, such as watching a specific TV show, organizing their clothing, or cleaning their rooms. This job taught me how to communicate with nurses and what details to expect to give when collaborating with them. Show less
