As the Assistant Manager for the new and busy Narre Warren store, Brooke hit the ground running. Starting with an empty store, void of staff and stock, Brooke began with fitting out the store, training staff, and developing new procedures. Brooke kept the store organised, full of stock, and fresh with new ideas for bringing in customers. She would oversee the customer service team, ensuring that they were following the correct processes, initiating new sales techniques and programs, and leading sales incentives for staff. Some of her management duties also included rostering staff, ordering and receiving stock, and training staff on new lines of stock (product knowledge). Brooke also took on a hands-on role from banking duties, handling special customer orders /enquiries, updating tickets with new prices, and merchandising, to assembling dog kennels and aquariums herself.

      • Dec 2010 - Jun 2013

Brooke had numerous roles at Phillip Island Nature Park, including some that she volunteered for. She worked across all four sites of the park including The Penguin Parade, The Nobbies Centre, The Koala Conservation Centre and Churchill Island. At the Penguin parade Brooke had several roles including Parade Ranger. Within this role was the nightly supervising and ambassadorial role of educating visitors on the beach and boardwalk. She would explain as they watched the Little Penguins cross the beach, the Short-tailed Shearwaters fly back in from the sea, and also the wallabies, geese and the numerous other species that they would see in the habitat. At Churchill Island, Brooke would lead international visitors of all ages around the historically significant, working farm. She would introduce them to farming practices of long ago, the animals of the farm, and the natural history of the local area. at the Koala Conservation Park, Brooke helped with the annual Koala census which entailed taking fur and blood samples from the Koalas. In her time at the Nature park, Brooke also spent her spare time volunteering. She helped with the local Wildlife Rescue, a call-out service to help sick or injured animals, transporting them to the Animal Hospital when need be. She also spent summer days, patrolling the beach roads to help rescue over-heated little penguins, and spent autumn evenings helping to rescue Short-tailed Shearwater chicks learning to fly. Brooke is also trained to help in the event of an oil-spill, and was trained as a fire-warden at the Nobbies Centre.

    • Assistant Manager - Liquor Department
      • Feb 2006 - Feb 2010

Brooke started work at Ritchies as a shop-girl, putting stock away as a casual staff member. She quickly went to full-time, dividing her time between working in the Butchery, helping to wrap the meat, and also, at times, cut the meat as well. She was also helping in the dairy section, mindful of the time management needed to keep the perishables at the right temperature. At times, she helped out in the Produce department, cutting vegetables and stocking the shelves in a presentable fashion. She helped with the ticketing of the store and serving of customers. Brooke then moved into the Liquor department, becoming Assistant Manager. She was responsible for the ordering of stock, replenishment of stock, overseeing of staff, high customer service and the presentation of the staff and store. Special tasks performed in this time were the management of the store in the events of several blackouts and a bushfire alert nearby. Brooke was able to prioritise the tasks quickly and efficiently to avoid the loss of stock through theft and the loss of perishable goods, the management of staff concerns and customer service and cooperatively liaising with Corporate management.
