Managing the threat of aquatic invasive species (AIS) in Alberta to help stop the introduction and spread of Ais into Alberta’s lakes, rivers and across borders. Watercraft inspectors are part of a larger province-wide AIS program that includes monitoring, response planning, education campaigns and policy. The watercraft inspectors program is focused primarily along major highways in Alberta. The purpose of inspection is to physically search various types of watercraft for the presence of AIS, interview boaters to determine the risk of introducing AIS, and educate the public of the threat of AIS. Other daily tasks associated with the position included but not limited to: towing and backing up trailers, crawling in and under watercraft, and the use of a high-pressure hot water decontamination unit. Additionally, working both independently without supervision and as part of a team. Demonstration of the Alberta Public Service values of respect, integrity, accountability and excellence.
