I remember once when he was modeling a cemetery how he reached out to inquire about the gods the people buried there would have worshipped, and how that would influence the religious iconography on their tombstones. Ever so often, he would seek me out on his own time to better understand the story, so that it might influence his work. This sort of attention detail is the difference between creating environments that are merely pleasing to look at, and environments that are truly alive.
