I am the co-founder and co-director of a service and study program. We collaborate with our various Ghana partners focusing on anti-child trafficking, public health, and education projects, to make the most affordable & enriching travel program out there! I accompany students that travel with us and connect students with opportunities to work on local health, education & anti-child trafficking projects. In addition, students have the privilege of learning from Ghanaian university professors and practitioners that focus on issues of social justice, public health, human rights, identity & more! We also explore the beautiful nation of Ghana, learn a local language, make friends & have fun! Show less

Catching Evidence with Frogs: Ethnographic Research with Rice Farmers in the Philippines and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) The National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD) and Fogarty International Center (FIC) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded the Minority Health and Health Disparities International Research Training (MHIRT) awards (RFA-MD-08-006: NCMHD Minority Health and Health Disparities). Northern Arizona University’s (NAU) College of Health and Human Services received funding from NIH for the MHIRT program (NIH-1T37MD008626-01). Dr. Leslie Schulz, Executive Dean of Northern Arizona University’s (NAU) College of Health and Human Services, is the project director/principal investigator of the NIH Minority Health and Health Disparities Research grant. Dr. Catherine Propper is a key-person/principal investigator of Northern Arizona University’s (NAU) Biological Sciences department. Faculty at NAU have an affiliation with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the Philippines. For my internship with the MHIRT program at IRRI, I used ethnographic research to seek information on farmers' knowledge, attitudes, and practices with respect to their perceptions and use of amphibians and the extent to which the farmers perceive that amphibians provide ecosystem services including amphibians' roles as biomonitors for pesticide exposure, rice pest predators, or food. I conducted surveys; interviews; observations; in-depth field notes; literature review; explored secondary data (Bernard 2006); and participated in local life and farming with local rice farmers and other adults in the surrounding areas of Los Baños.
